Your Photo Session

What should I bring to the photo session?

We always have lots of dog treats, squeakers, collars, leashes, noisemakers, and gallons of water on hand. But no one knows your pet better than you, so here are some suggestions to help the session go smoothly:

Yummy treats. If your dog is motivated by food, it’s always helpful to have some of his/her favorite treats on hand, broken up into small pieces for frequent rewards.

Your best collar! We love cool collars that reflect your dog’s personality and sense of style.

Any favorite squeaky toys that will get those ears to perk up and help keep your dog’s attention when needed.

Frisbees, tennis balls, Chuck-It’s, and anything else your dog loves to chase.

At what time of day will my session take place?

Natural light is an important component of a good photo shoot. In general, most of our sessions take place mid to late afternoon. During the summer months, we also offer early morning sessions.

How many people and animals are allowed to participate in my photo session?

Because we are focused on your dogs and horses being the stars of the show, we ask that no more than two people and two dogs or horses attend a typical session. If you are interested in a large family or group shoot, or have more than two pets, please contact us so we can work out a special plan for you.

Can I bring my own camera to the shoot?

Please don’t. We prefer that your full attention be given to our photographer and your pet during the shoot.

What if the weather doesn’t cooperate?

It’s important to capture the best images we can the day of your photo shoot. If we have a forecast for heavy rain, damaging winds, or general unstable weather we will reschedule accordingly.

Pet Behavior

My dog can’t be off leash. Is that OK?

Absolutely. Most of our clients have their dogs on leash during the photo session, either because the location requires it, or there is a road nearby, or their dogs do not have a reliable recall. Safety always comes first.

My dog is comfortable both on and off leash. What do you recommend?

We only recommend dogs be off leash in safe wide open areas such as large parks, creeks, rivers, and so on. For city photos many of our clients enjoy the look of their dogs with their favorite collars and leashes on, which adds artistic merit to your images. If you are inclined to want your images to be leash-free, we recommend bringing a thin leash or long line so we can remove it in post processing (additional fees may apply).

What if my dog is nervous, timid, fearful, or anxious? Can we still book a session?

Yes. We will do everything we can to ensure your pup feels at ease with us. We can also find quiet locations without too many distractions or situations that might make your pet uneasy. With patience and other techniques that give us greater separation from your pet, we can have a very successful photo shoot. However, if we feel that we or your dog are in danger of any sort, or if your pet becomes aggressive, we reserve the right, at our discretion, to cancel the session.
